Coney Island Brewing Co. set to drop anchor back in namesake ‘hood

Looks like Coney Island Brewing Co is riding the F train back home. via Facebook

Brooklynites take the privilege to say “Made in Brooklyn” pretty damn seriously, especially when you have your neighborhood’s namesake in the title of the product. Well here’s great, boozy news for people picky about semantics: after a Hurricane Sandy-issued hiatus, Coney Island Brewing Co. is set to return to Coney Island.

Amusing The Zillion reports that Alchemy & Science, the division of Samuel Adams that bought Coney Island Brewing Co. a year ago, has applied for a license to open shop at 1904 Surf Ave. While no official announcement is ready to be made on behalf of Coney Island Brewing, an application submitted on September 26 is being reviewed by the New York State Liquor Authority. The company is planning on hosting a brewery, tasting room, retail space, community center, and tours of the brewing process at the new location. The brewery’s last Coney Island iteration was dubbed the “World’s Smallest Brewery,” so this venture seems to be quite a departure from that claim.

Last November the brand relaunched with a new look and new beers that celebrate the best of Coney – the attractions, the beach, the boardwalk, and of course, the hot dogs. New beers include catchy, kitschy names like “Seas the Day” (an Indian pale lager), “Tunnel of Love” (a watermelon wheat), and “The Plunge” (a golden Belgian-style ale). No doubt that this new location will be a big hit for tourists and day-trippers alike with it’s accessibility to MCU Park & Nathan’s Famous.
