Bushwick had the city’s biggest jump in home values in the past year

These homes are 30% richer than they were last year. Not you, though. via Flickr user Susan Sermoneta

It seems like it was just yesterday that Bushwick was kinda sorta a bargain price-wise, was full of people living on houseboats and hopping freight trains and was being described as an awful hellhole by the likes of Vogue. Turns out that train-hopping hobos and Vogue condemnation be damned, Bushwick homes also shot up 31.2% in value between 2013 and 2014. You were never gonna be able to own a home anyway, but now you can cross Bushwick off your fantasy list for good.

The big jump comes courtesy of Crain’s, who took a look at median home prices around the city, to make a list of the top five neighborhoods that saw home prices rise and also saw them drop. Bushwick topped the neighborhoods that had home prices rising, going from $427,200 to $560,500 between June 2013 and June 2014. If you wanted another reason to hate Penn Badgely or Zosia Mamet or even yourself, now you’ve got one.

  • You can always buy this monstrously bland renovation on the border of Bushwick and East NY next to the Jackie Robinson Pkwy and Broadway Junction. The height of the amenities around this area include a bodega that's open 24-7, laundromats and 99cent stores. Which can all be had for a mere million dollars. Have at it! :D http://bit.ly/1AEip70
