BK Top 5: The best things to do tonight, from saving the galaxy to laughing with Jean Grae

Well, it’s Monday again, but there’s a piece of good news to come along with it at least. The good news is that it’s supposed to be a hot one today. Embrace the hot one, hold on to the muggy weather and the sweat, beause soon you won’t have it anymore, you’ll have sweaters and heavy coats instead. Sorry, didn’t mean to be a downer, because other than the heat, you have all these great things to do tonight courtesy of the Brokelyn Event Calendar.

LITTLE DIETER NEEDS TO FLY
A great way to start your week is by spending some cinematic time with that notorious optimist, Werner Herzog. Tonight, the Brooklyn Historical Society shows Herzog’s film about a Navy pilot’s life, from his abusive, war-stricken childhood to his capture and escape in the Vietnam War. At the very least, a way to remember that going back to work today isn’t the worst thing that can happen to you.
6:30pm, Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepoint Street, Brooklyn Heights, FREE

BEAUTY LOVE TRUTH WITH MUSICAL GUEST JEAN GRAE
Here’s one that’s good for Jean Grae fans, of which there are probably a decent amount of you. The concept of the night is Jean does a song, and then a cast of comedians shows up to improvise a scene based on the mood, images, themes or even just the words from the song. So kind of like improvisational dance, but instead it’s comedy. Although there might be some dancing too.
7:30pm, Union Hall, 702 Union Street, Park Slope, $10

CUBE: BACK 2 SCHOOL, LOOKIN COOL FASHION TIPS
Well okay, no matter how hard you fight it, the phrase “back to school” is everywhere now. Oh wait, you don’t have to go back to school though, which is pretty great. Since you’re not facing the imminent end of your summer vacation (because you never had one, but never mind), get some laughs while thinking of kids dragging themselves back, courtesy of Samantha Ruddy, Matt Koff, Dianna Kolsky and others.
9pm, Muchmore’s, 2 Havemeyer Street, Williamsburg, FREE

FLICKS ON THE BEACH: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
If you made the mistake of seeing, or just being aware of the new Fantastic Four movie, you need a superhero movie palette cleanser. You can’t do much better than sitting outside and seeing Guardians of the Galaxy, which still manages to have a sense of humor and wonder even as the universe faces certain doom, unless of course a mismatched team of outcasts can save it.
8pm, 1001 Boardwalk West, Coney Island, FREE

NIGHT TRAIN, WITH GUEST HOST APARNA NANCHERLA
Wyatt Cenac is off on another spirit journey, so the very funny Aparna Nancherla has hosting duties for Night Train again tonight. Of course, she won’t be alone. She’s got comedic backup in the form of people like Allison Castillo and Kyle Ayers (who you might remember from maybe livetweeting a Williamsburg couple’s rooftop breakup).
7:30pm, Littlefield, 622 DeGraw Street, Gowanus, $8
