Bedford Hill Coffee Bar
343 Franklin Ave (at Greene Ave)
Bed-Stuy
(718) 636-7650

What is it: Quaint brunch time coffee hang by day; grown-up date spot by night, this corner cafe is a neighborhood favorite for its morning to night menu offerings, crafted aesthetic and secret hideway charm.

Why we love it: Taking the three steps down into this half-underground coffee and beer joint feels like a descent into 1920s Paris. Small cafe tables are tightly arranged, and a corked dinette-style bar hosts a regular slew of long-time Bed-Stuy locals and newer transplants. The salon vibe does not go unnoticed; in a space this small, the atmosphere gives it a healthy charge.

Who to bring: Anyone you’re looking to impress, business partner, boss, the babe from from the laundromat. If it’s the latter, here’s to finding yourself back at the bar the next morning – this time for breakfast.

What to order: A regular rotation of craft beers means there’s usually something new to try. And if you’re having trouble deciding between coffee or beer, there’s the bold and daring Depth Charger: a pint of stout with a double espresso on top.

Fun Fact: The very first episode of Brokelandia was filmed in the cafe. They also frequently host pop-up shop nights and special nightly menu items, like Korean BBQ tacos and an impressive $8 burger.
