If you can manage to squint through the sheets of rain today, you might catch a glimpse of the real estate market, which is significantly less devastating than it was last time we checked. Right now you can actually live somewhere for $700, and still make it to civilization for your day job. Check out the spots below and tell Mr. Whiskers to take his pick: most of these allow pets.
So is it just me, or is there something about a place looking lived-in that makes it more appealing? This 3-bedroom in Park Slope is a little on the pricier side, but your extra rent pays the doorman’s salary. For $1,100 apiece, the three of you get to live in the heart of stroller city, right off the Union R and Bergen 2/3. And from the photos, it looks like the previous tenants have even given you an illustrated guideline of how to make use of the space. What are you waiting for, a paycheck?

This 3-bedroom in Crown Heights is only $2,100, and boldly advertises no-fee (i.e. it’ll probably be gone by this afternoon, so move quick!). Gut reno in a pre-war building straddling the Kingston 3 and the Utica 4/5, so perfect for when you can’t decide whether you want kosher food or West Indian food for dinner. They’ve also got another listing for the same price, and it sounds like these are the last two spots in the building. Tell your friends… or wait, don’t.

The guys over at Ideal Properties found you a 2-bedroom in Sunset Park that’s actually kind of reasonable—or as they put it, “well-priced” at $1700/month. Pets are allowed, so you can have your own in-house cuddle buddy instead of hovering over someone else’s. It’s off the 59th Street R stop, which with any luck will be fixed by the time you can afford to buy instead of rent.

While you’re in Sunset Park, consider finding an extra roommate to get in on this bad-boy off the 45th Street R stop: for $2,200 you get 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and as many pets as you like! This pad also boasts a private yard, which gives you endless opportunities to be even more ‘local’ than you already are.

Also in the category of ‘things that make apartments look attractive’, antique furniture piles! For some reason this 2-bedroom in true Bay Ridge didn’t stop at a decent $2,000 price tag: it also wanted to show you that you can build forts with your possessions. But if you tire of that, feel free to walk down to the water, which is literally right next to you off the 95th Street R train. Kind of dreamy, right? Or just admire the view of the bridge from your window, while you think about the fact that you finally live in an elevator building! With your cat (pets allowed).

Next on the docket today, a 3-bedroom 2-bathroom outfit for $2,795 in the heart of Crown Heights. The basics: pets allowed, pre-war, hardwood. But also, a washer-dryer in unit! No more flirting at laundromats. Stone’s throw from the Nostrand A/C, a short walk to the Franklin 2/3/4/5, and right next to the Nostrand Avenue LIRR, if you ever need that. Oh, and you’ll love what’s happening to the neighborhood: Crown Heights is quickly becoming a place where artists huddle together over bonfires and talk about pizza.

And lastly, can’t forget about dear old Bushwick, which still retains glimmers of affordable housing. Moving to this 3-bedroom for $2,350 off the Halsey J train does violate the whole “never move into a place undergoing major renovations” guideline. But you’ve gotta live somewhere, and this place could fit your animal-loving needs. Also features hardwood flooring, exposed brick and ‘industrial beams’, which sounds a heckuva lot stronger than plywood—though if you’re worried about your safety, be comforted that there are always worse things in Brooklyn.
