Attention all Jeremiahs, Henriettas, Madelyns, Adelaides, Braydens and whatever other names you have because your parents wanted to be so clever and original: you are losing out to the Tom, Dick and Janes in the workplace. Or so says this study from the University of Melbourne, which concludes people “with more pronounceable names rose more quickly to superior positions in their firms, while political aspirants with simpler names exhibited better odds of getting elected.” The study says it’s the ease of pronunciation, not length or cultural origins, that makes the big difference. So what the hell are you supposed to do with this information? Probably nothing except get yourself a nickname turn this into more parental resentment and bury it deep, so very deep inside.
