Women still worth only 84 percent of a man, even here in NY

We are really upset that this image is still relevant.

Attention ladies: you are STILL statistically likely to be more broke than your male counterparts. The National Partnership for Women & Families did some number crunchin’ on the 2010 census, and it turns out that nationally, women working full time STILL only make 77 cents on every dollar that a man working full time makes.

I know what you’re thinking. “Whoa whoa whoa, The national rate totally doesn’t apply to New York! All of those totally backward southern states, the rectangle ones in the middle and all other places that are not as forward our reliable, true-blue state, are skewing the numbers!” Well, get this: in New York, women STILL earn only 84 cents for every dollar earned by a man. A woman at the median income level will earn $8,275 less than a man making that same salary. The disparity spans all education levels and industries, so don’t think you’re immune! How many more ways can we explain to you how much this blows??

However, we are brokesters, and we will do anything to ensure we’re getting paid what we deserve. Let’s put some serious pressure on our representatives in all levels of government to pass legislation that ensures fair pay and workplace protection. This includes the Paycheck Fairness Act in Congress, and the Fair Pay Act in the New York State Legislature.

Not sure who your reps are? Check out this map and find out which districts you’re in, and keep those electeds on their toes!

  1. Skewed statistic. The census acknowledges that it’s not necessarily equal work. In fact, recent female college grads actually make MORE than men. This is just propaganda
