Where to compost your leaves, this weekend and next

You could use this. Or just some bags.

The fall leaves have fallen. While you may be enjoying the burnt shades they’re bringing to your yard or patch of grass for now, come first snow, things won’t be feeling so pretty underfoot. So it’s time to rake ’em up, bag ’em and… wait for the Dept. of Sanitation to haul ’em off for some large-scale composting? Nope. That’s been canceled. Luckily, though, some others are filling the void in the composting game. NYCLeaves: Project LeafDrop is running a number of leaf collection spots this weekend and next, so you can bring your eco-material and have it put to good use.

Project LeafDrop has a handy borough-wide map where you can click through locations and see when one in your neighborhood will be in business. The Kensington Prospect lists these three collection spots in its coverage area, collecting today through Sunday and again next weekend:

E. 4th St. Community Garden, 179 E. 4th St. between Caton Ave. and Ft. Hamilton Pkwy
Saturday, Nov. 20: 11 am-1 pm
Sunday Nov. 21: noon-2 pm
Saturday, Nov. 27: 11 am-1 pm
Sunday, Nov. 28: 12 pm-2 pm

Prospect Farm, Prospect Ave., under the Seeley St. Bridge
Saturday, Nov. 20 and Sunday, Nov. 21: 11 am-3 pm

Compost for Brooklyn, Newkirk Ave. at E. 8th St.
Sundays, Nov. 21 and Nov. 28: 3 pm-6 pm

See NYCLeaves: Project LeafDrop and each locations website for more info on bringing in your leaves and where they go.
