What a last-minute World Series ticket will cost you

Yes, the weather’s crummy, and yes, tonight’s much-awaited Turnpike Tussle in the Bronx could be one cold and soggy show you’d be better off watching in a warm bar, drink-in-hand. But if you woke up this morning and realized you’re a real baseball fan—the kind who just has to be there, sitting in the rain, cold hands poised for that Bronx bomb to come your way—here’s what that privilege will cost.

At the crack of dawn this morning, NJ.com reported finding tickets for Yankees home games ranging from anywhere from $265 to $9,999 on the secondary market, for an average of $698. (Still less than the $977 average price for games in Philadelphia.) The article predicted that the prices would go down by game time owing to the rain. But as of 5:30 p.m., with the clock’s hands fast approaching the 7:57 first pitch, our own price check found little movement. Tickets for Wednesday night’s game started at $299 on StubHub, $291 on Ticket Liquidator and $270 at TickCo. There are other methods, though—Phillies fans, for instance, tend to get their tickets this way.
