Sunny’s: a place worth saving. via Forgotten New York

So you missed the indie-rock tabernacle choir and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Union Pool are already sold out. Bummer, man. But pretty much everyone is putting a #SandyBenefit angle on their events so there’s still plenty of options to enjoy entertainment and booze while helping hurricane relief efforts. Here’s a few, starting with a free Occupy Sandy volunteer party tonight at The Bell House.

Occupy Sandy Volunteer Appreciation Party 
You gave back to the community in a time of need, now Occupy is throwing a party in your honor. Drink specials, DJ and surprise musical performances.

The Kitchen is Flooded & Other Disasters 
Work It Brooklyn and Brooklyn Based are hosting a chefs storytelling and food industry networking event to raise funds for ReStore Red Hook.
When: Wed. 11/28 7:30pm-9:30pm
Where: Brooklyn Brewery, 79 N. 11 St., Williamsburg
Cost: $15

Sailor Jerry Presents Surf Bar’s Hurricane Benefit 
Open bar will include Sailor Jerry Hurricane punch (or SJ with your fave mixer), beer and wine. Sorr, no free tattoos this time guys.
When: Thur. 11/29 7pm-10pm
Where: Surf Bar, 139 N. 6 St., Williamsburg
Cost: $25 includes open bar (all proceeds go to help Sandy victims)

“Searching for Tom Curren” screening and live performance 
This one is for surfing enthusiasts with a little cash to burn (how is it that surfers always seem to have money?). The cult classic surf film will be screened in the Wythe Hotel screening room followed by a Q&A with special guests director Sonny Miller and legendary surfer Tom Curren. The ticket includes open bar and snacks by Reynards. After that the party will relocate to Pilgrim Surf + Supply for an acoustic performance by Tom and a raffle of boards and other surf gear. All proceeds benefit Waves for Water – Hurricane Sandy Relief Initiative.
When: Fri. 11/20 7pm-9pm + after screening performance & raffle
Where: Wythe Hotel, 80 Wythe Ave., Williamsburg // Pilgrim Surf + Supply, 68 N. 3 St., Williamsburg
Cost: $150 for screening + open bar at Wythe; After party at Pilgrim is free and open to public

Save Sunny’s Bar Fundraiser 
The iconic Red Hook waterfront dive took a very bad hit in the storm. They’ve started a Kickstarter campaign to replace the boiler, water heater, ice machines, floor, sound equipment, etc. but friends of the bar are hosting a night of readings, performances, comedy and music to help them meet their $20k goal.
When: Sat. 12/1 7pm-11pm
Where: Hamilton Gallery Theater, 498 Court St., Carroll Gardens
Cost: $25 donation includes 1st beer

Drink For Good: NYC Brewers Guild Hurricane Sandy Relief Fundraiser 
Join the New York City Brewers Guild on December 4th to help give to the communities that need it most, through the organizations that know them best:Rockaway Surf ClubRed Hook Initiative & Coney Recovers. All funds raised with be split equally amongst the three organizations. Participating local breweries include Blue Point, Bronx Brewery, Brooklyn Brewery, Eataly Birreria, Empire, Heartland, Kelso, and Sixpoint.
When: Tues. 12/4 7pm-10pm
Where: Brooklyn Brewery, 79 N. 11 St., Williamsburg
Cost: $40 ticket includes a commemorative tasting glass and unlimited samples from all sixteen breweries.

Tell Your Friends! Concert Film! Release Show and Sandy Benefit 
Tell Your Friends! The Concert Film! is a comedy concert film, recorded at the Bell House in beautiful downtown Gowanus, featuring performances from the NYC indie comedy scene’s best and brightest, including Reggie Watts, Kurt Braunohler & Kristen Schaal, Christian Finnegan, Leo Allen, Rob Paravonian, and Liam McEneaney.
When: Wed. 12/5 8pm

Cost: $25

Booze money, care of Fort Defiance

Ongoing: You can help Red Hook boozy brunch favorite Fort Defiance resurrect its old glory by buying “junk bonds.” FD is selling beautiful new gift certificates at TWICE their value (e.g., you pay $20, FD gives you $10 in gift certificates). They would make a great holiday gift for day drinking enthusiasts.
