Find your missed connection at the Transit Museum

Or you could just come to this party. via NYU Local

Few things are more frustrating than having a missed connection on the subway (except perhaps actually taking the subway). Maybe you made deep, powerful eye contact with the guy proselytizing about The End of Days. Maybe the busker who almost accidentally smashed your jaw with his guitar graced you with the most beautiful rendition of “Wonderwall” you’d heard that week. Maybe the tourist who asked if Times Square really is the pinnacle of the authentic New York experience had a charming accent.

The New York Transit Museum knows your frustration, and they want to help you be the irritating PDA couple everyone hates by finding you that special someone. That’s why they’re hosting their fourth annual Missed Connections party on Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

The event is inspired by Craigslist’s Missed Connections section and will feature heart-shaped cookie decorating, a drop-in poetry workshop led by the New York Writer’s Coalition, a photo booth where “public displays of affection are encouraged,” and tips on how to avoid future missed connections by someone from the dating site Cheek’d. Scoff all you like, but don’t forget that New Yorkers already cop to seeing their missed connections on the subway, so this is as good a venue as any to look for yours, and then find love with someone new if he isn’t there.

On top of all this, missed connectors will have the chance to “create artsy valentines for their favorite (or least favorite) subway lines and bus routes.” What’s this here? An invitation for embarrassing subway Valentine’s Day puns? Well don’t mind if we start you off:

B mine always, not just during weekday rush hour.
G you’re sweet, even if you’re kinda flaky.
R we going to get back on the right track soon?
I wish I could C you when I actually need you.
You’re a Qt for almost never making me take a shuttle bus.
I never want to feel signal problems between the 2 of us.

We’ll leave the D and F train messages to you.

If you’re not too deep in your cookie decorating or L train adulating zone, you can also explore the museum itself. The event will feature Brooklyn Brewery beer along with tastings and raffle prizes from Brooklyn Winery, The Chocolate Room, Brittle Barn, Grand Central Oyster Bar Brooklyn, and Nunu Chocolates. Admission is $15, or $10 for museum members.
