Top 10: The best cheap things to do in Brooklyn this week, come out to play edition

Swan about with Dirty Martini and more burlesque grande dames (#2)

1. There’s never a shortage of great comedy shows around town, but here’s a new one to add to the list: Savage: A Comedy Show, hosted by Aalap Patel and featuring, in addition to jokesters, a guest lecturer and musical acts. At the inaugural show there’s comedy from Kerry Coddett, Seaton Smith, Chris Distefano, and Lukas Kaiser, a physics lecture by Boris Khaykin, and music from Cipha Sounds. (Monday, Fawkner, FREE)

2. Burlesque is not necessarily a field that’s kind to longevity, but tonight I ♥ BURLESQUE presents Ten over 10, a revue featuring ten performers who have been burlesquing for more than ten years, including Dirty Martini, Fem Appeal, Minnie Tonka, Darlinda Just Darlinda, Nasty Canasta, Peekaboo Pointe, and Maggie McMuffin. (Monday, Lucky 13 Saloon, $10)

3. Dan Wilbur is a standup comic, writer, and the mastermind behind the hilarious Tumblr Better Book Titles — which renames, for example, the Bible as “Sh*t My Dad Says,” and What to Expect When You’re Expecting as “There Will Be Blood.” He’s launching his new bookNever Flirt With Puppy Killers, in excellent fashion, with comedy from Janeane Garofalo, Josh Gondelman, Jacqueline Novak, and Erik Bergstrom, plus tunes from Reformed Whores. (Tuesday, Littlefield, $8)

4. The consistently fantastic Little Cinema immersive movie series is presenting what may be their most ambitious evening yet: screening cult classic The Warriors, with a live partial rescoring by Black Lodge, an aerialist vs. breakdancers battle, special appearances by two original Warriors cast members, and a free dance party after the film. (Tuesday, House of Yes, $13.52)

5. Tackling one of today’s hot-button issues is the panel discussion Refugee Brooklyn: Stories from Brooklyn’s Refugee Communities, moderated by City Limits Publisher Jarrett Murphy and featuring Eileen Reilly, Director for Refugee Services at CAMBA; Zeinab Eyega, Founder of African advocacy organization Sauti Yetu; and representatives from the Russian Jewish and Albanian communities. (Wednesday, Brooklyn Historical Society, $5)

6. Have a terrifically boozy evening at Beer Geek Trivia — part pub quiz, part “meet the brewer” night — brought to you by Gun Hill Brewing Co., which will have plenty of their brews on tap, including Rise Up Rye, inspired by Hamilton. (Wednesday, Glorietta Baldy’s, FREE)

7. Get a dose of strange art at Oru and the Bone Dolls at the Museum of the Ancient Future, where the Living Gallery will be transformed into an imaginary space: “part museum, part ancient temple, part futuristic utopia,” and the resulting performance involves cyborgs, spirituality, and Afro-Peruvian history. (Thursday, Living Gallery, $10)

8. Have a very musical time at Opera on Tap: All Fached Up, a night of opera “outside the box,” with classical singers belting country songs and baroque operas done in the style of Beyoncé, all followed by live-band karaoke. (Thursday, Freddy’s, FREE)

9. The Brooklyn Art Library, home to the world’s largest collection of sketchbooks, has moved to a new Greenpoint space, and tonight is their inaugural exhibit, featuring prints from 20+ artists, free wine, and, of course, a whole new crop of sketchbooks. (Friday, Brooklyn Art Library, FREE)

10. The dream of the ’90s is alive in Red Hook: the Zine Exchange will be full of zine makers displaying and selling their wares, plus an ongoing blind zine exchange game and the launch of three new risographs. (Friday, Pioneer Works, FREE)
