Top 10: The best cheap things to do in Brooklyn this week, MADBALLS edition

Art that promises to make your eyeballs explode. (#9)

1. Find your own kind of strange spirituality at Modern Rituals, where comedians present their own bizarre personal ceremonies, like Julio Torres’ Sentient Gemstone, Lorelei Ramirez’ Shapeshifting Spectre, and John Swan’s Medicine Dance. (Monday, FREE)

2. The LIT Music & Reading series presents fiction, nonfiction, and poetry centered around a different artist each time—get delirious and go crazy, because this edition is all about Prince. (Monday, FREE)

3. Join the Brooklyn Paranormal Society (of course that’s a thing) on an investigation of Prospect Park, visiting the site of five known murders and possible a Quaker cemetery. (Tuesday, FREE; RSVP required)

4. Kick off New York Super Week at the Way Station with the Encryption Pub Quiz, starting with a talk on the myths and realities of cybersecurity and then moving on to questions on everything from pop culture to code. (Tuesday, FREE)

5. Journey into one man’s MTA obsession with a screening of the documentary One Track Mind, wherein Philip Ashforth Coppola spends four years documenting every single subway station, as well as the mosaics decorating them all. (Wednesday, $10)

6. Think you’ve seen every permutation of cats and cat stories? Not so fast. Join the New York Obscura Society at Catland Books for a lecture on nautical cats, which have been a feature on ships since Ancient Egypt. (Wednesday, $15)

7. Rooftop Films is still kicking even though summer’s over, and tonight they present the series premiere of SundanceTV’s “The Returned,” along with short horror films from around the world. (Thursday, FREE)

8. This Bernie Sanders fella seems to be getting a lot of attention—show your love at the Berning Up Brooklyn fundraiser, with Bernie-inspired food, art, and merch, plus more than two dozen musical acts. (Thursday, $10)

9. The latest in the endless ’80s nostalgia trend is a resurrection of the comic-based-on-toy MADBALLS. Roar Comics is releasing a limited-edition new comic, Madballs Oozing Art Wad; party with the artists at Desert Island. (Friday, FREE)

10. It’s the very last Lola Starr Roller Disco of the season, and the theme for the night is, of course, Thriller. Themed costumes encouraged. (Friday, $18 w/ skate rental)
