If you saw this week’s totally paw-some NY Mag slideshow of fabulous dog costumes, you may have been inspired to trick out your own pooch for Halloween. If so, your dog will have ample opportunity to strut his Susan Boyle best at no fewer than three Halloween dog costume contests in Brooklyn this weekend. Competition should be stiff—these guys at left are no country pumpkins—so be imaginative.
The 11th Annual Great Pupkin Dog Costume Contest is Saturday at noon in Fort Greene Park. Registration is at 11:30 ($5 entrance fee). Prizes to be awarded for best costume. Last years winner dressed up as the dog park’s water fountain.
District Dog’s Halloween Parade is Saturday at 1 p.m. The parade starts at McGorlick Park in Greenpoint (on the corner of Driggs Ave. and Russell St.). Last year’s best costumed dog was a G train, so you better step up your costume game from that hot-dog number Fido wore last year.
Also on Saturday is the first annual Howl-o-ween Pups on Parade at J.J. Byrne/Washington Park in Park Slope. This is a dog costume parade and contest from 1 to 3 p.m. at Fifth Ave. and 4th St. Registration ($10) runs from 12 to 12:45; all proceeds go toward spiffing up the park. Prizes for best costume.
