Brokelyn-approved events: sexy cell-phone art, Vicky Flatbush sale, Gov’s Island art fest

CELLPHONES. Now that we got your attention, we’re going to talk about sex. (Did that work?) 3RD Ward, an artists’ hang in Williamsburg, celebrates the opening of a group art show cleverly called Sex Cells, featuring erotic pictures taken via cellphone. The photos look ridiculously hot, so don’t blame us if you get groped. (Or maybe we should say… mazel tov!) Free drinks and a bleepybloopy performance by a quirk-tronica band called Unicornicopia. Friday night, from 7 to 10, 3rd Ward, 195 Morgan Ave.,

picture-39On the other end of the taste and entertainment spectrum altogether is Sunday’s group yard sale in Victorian Flatbush. (Does anyone know if there’s an Edwardian Newark?) The four-neighborhood sale is really just an excuse for a walk on some of Brooklyn’s prettiest streets and a little real-estate voyeurism. (Here’s a mansion on Brownstoner today.) Sunday from 10 to 4, various locations in Ditmas Park, Ditmas Park West, Fiske Terrace and Midwood Park. To get there take the Q train to Cortelyou Road or Newkirk Plaza.

Finally, only in rare occasions do we list outings outside of Brooklyn—but how could a day trip to Governor’s Island with a bunch of loopy anarchists not be a gas? This weekend is Figment, a 3-day arts fest free of charge as well as corporate sponsorship (oh jeez…) and featuring 400+ works of collaborative and participatory art, performance and music. “FIGMENT intends for everyone who comes to the event be a participant… Ideally, no one is a spectator. We are all connected, and we are all creators.” It’s that sort of thing.  Well we are cheapasses, and transportation is also free if you hitch a boat ride at Fulton Ferry Landing, which leave about every 20 minutes (By subway, take the 2 or 3 to Clark St. or the A or C to High Street and head for the water) More info:
