This weekend: Doomsday films, drink-laden walking tours, A Charlie Brown Christmas

FRIDAY
fri-sat:
the doomsday film festival = 2 days of screenings (a boy and his dog, night of the comet, testament, hardware, more) and panels (paul ‘i wrote taxi driver’ schrader, wired’s kirs alexander, time out’s joshua rothkopf, more) on the theme of the end of days. spectacle theater (williamsburg), $8/program.

8pm: ‘un-supersize me’ food competition/holiday benefit/art show asks you to enter anything you want so long as it’s mini! fowler arts collective (greenpoint), $10 admission gets you tastings plus a raffle ticket, free to compete.

9pm-12am: explore new a neighborhood and get drunk! ditmas park walking tour/pub crawl: sightseeing, drink specials, trivia contest and a free taco await! meet at beverly road subway station, $15.

SATURDAY
12-6pm:
score discounts + free treats while you shop at greenpoint’s first annual franklin street holiday stroll… and be sure to hit up in god we trust’s outdoor market, featuring a dozen vendors and free drinks.

8 pm: the bow-strokers of the string orchestra of brooklyn play dark & haunting cinematic scores from the last 50 years. wine & snacks to follow. st. ann & the holy trinity church. $10

11pm: cheryl ‘the dance party that will ruin your life’ makes you dance at their ‘wyzyrd blyzzyrd’. bell house, $10.

SUNDAY
4pm:
doc. waste land follows brazilian artist vik muniz and his work featuring garbage pickers in largest landfill in the world. indiescreen, $10.

ALL WEEKEND
12pm-4pm:
authors julie powell, emily st. john mandel, rachel shukert, julia wertz, many more take over bookseller duties at word book store, dishing out recommendations, wrapping, bagging and signing books.

8pm (thru 12/19): a charlie brown christmas – live accompanied by a jazz trio performing vince guaraldi’s classic score. brooklyn lyceum, $10.
