Monday night football? While the bros and the bettys are busy getting iced, you can start your own weekly ritual this fall. In honor of great under-appreciated TV, the Knitting Factory is showing highlights of some of its favorite TV series every Monday. Replete with free snacks and specialty cocktails, the TV nights are kicking off this Monday, Sept. 13, with one that’s hard to pass up: Arrested Development and the tribulations of the family Bluth.
For those of you who missed the short-lived show, Arrested Development follows the Bluths as they cohabitate in a model home after their father is arrested for tax evasion. For the next three weeks, the Knitting Factory will be showing highlights of each season that managed to bring Liza Minnelli back and crown Michael Cera leader of the awkward teenage boy kingdom.
The weekly TV Party is hosted by comedians Jerm Pollet and Michael Austin, the team behind the Raspberry Brothers and Spoons, Toons and Booze, the Saturday morning cartoons party. On the tube in coming months will be Flight of the Conchords, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The L Word, Mr. Show, Degrassi, Freaks and Geeks, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and more. The event is also planned to include rare footage, trivia and quote-alongs for prizes and guest appearances.
Plus, enjoy this bonus entertainment throughout the month: The Nevernudes, an Arrested Development band, who may or may not be stripped down to their jorts, will perform live. Are you a fan of magic tricks? Watch the tribute to our favorite illusionist, Gob, featuring faulty tricks – er, illusions. Dance your pants off with DJ Fangbat, spinning AD-inspired tunes all night. (No, Lucille II, not THAT kind of spinning.)
So crawl into those leather daddy pants and put on your dessert banana bib (free snacks include chocolate-and-nut-covered frozen bananas, while supplies last). September will be gone faster than you can say “Mr. Manager.”
