You might remember when we told you about Hunter’s Point South Living, your newest chance to snag affordable housing on the Long Island City waterfront. Just as a refresher: There are almost 1,000 apartments with unique layouts, new appliances, and fantastic views, PLUS the building itself comes with some sweet amenities. Think you make too much to qualify for an affordable unit at Hunter’s Point South? Don’t give up hope just yet, because household sizes at multiple income levels — between $55,200 and $224,000 per year — can still apply for affordable housing.
There are 738 apartments at Hunter’s Point South Living designated for moderate income families making between 130 and 205 percent of the area medium income. That means a single person making between $55,000 and $135,000 could apply, as well as a four person family making between $110,000 and $190,000. A family of six, making between $110,000 and $224,000, could also apply for a three-bedroom unit. Be sure to read through the specific income qualifications.
How much will this rent stabilized luxury living run you? A single person in a studio will pay between $1,561 and $1,997 per month depending on their salary. One bedrooms go for between $1,965 to $2,509 per month; two bedrooms from $2,366 to $3,300 per month; and three bedrooms from $2,729 and $4,346 per month. There’s more good news: Apartments designated for moderate income families will stay rent stabilized after they move in.
Once moved in, residents will have access to public terraces, fitness centers, tech centers, bike storage, a community roof garden, party rooms, laundry rooms, and a parking garage. Both of the buildings will be fully staffed with 24-hour lobby attendants, as well as an on-site resident manager. The apartments themselves will include dishwashers, and each of the two-and three-bedroom units have in-unit washers and dryers.
So, you want in? Of course you do. Everyone interested in living at Hunter’s Point South must submit an application byDecember 15, 2014 (You can apply online or send a paper application to Hunter’s Point South Living, 1357 Broadway, Box 308, New York, NY 10018). Then, it’s sit back and wait to see if you win the housing lottery. The city will begin notifying qualified applicants that they’re winners starting in early 2015 and the first group of lucky residents should be moving in come spring 2015.
