Well OK, we goofed when we wrote up the Brooklyn Comedy Festival and said that Brooklyn hadn’t had a comedy festival yet. And now that mistake is coming around to hit us in the face like so many cream pies, because the lineup and dates for the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival have been announced, and holy moly. It looks good enough to skip your friend’s wedding to see it.
For the uninitiated, the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival involves local funnyman Eugene Mirman getting a bunch of his friends and favorite comics together at the Bell House and Union Hall and giving us all many more laughs than we deserve. This is the sixth year of the festival, and Mirman clearly isn’t resting on his laurels as a big time animated voice/basic cable late night star.
The festival, stretching from September 26 to 29 pulls in big names, both local and not so local. Mirman himself will be hosting a Star Talk with your physicist crush, Neil deGrasse Tyson, on September 27. He’ll also be appearing at a celebration of Bob’s Burgers’ fourth season along with the rest of the show’s cast, and at an event called The Urbane Comedy Hour: Non-Stop Courtesy and Culture Through the Prism of Comedy (whew). Ira Glass will be there too, and so will Jim Gaffigan!
On the non-Mirman front, our favorite, Kate Berlant will be at an event at Union Hall called Comics Marc Maron Will Probably Resent in a Couple of Years. And in big big awesome news, Kurt Braunholer and Kristen Schaal are coming crawling back for our approval with a Brooklyn edition of Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen. Show up and boo them for leaving us! We’re kidding, show up and beg them to come back to Brooklyn. Seriously, if you have plans, cancel them for this, because what’s the point of living if you miss this festival?
