Do you dream of having a lush, leafy green-filled space? Instead, you’re greeted with the sad reality that your succulents shrivel and wither and you can’t keep a plant alive to save your own life. Maybe your small studio only has one window or you have ample windows that face brick walls.

Fret not, you don’t have to be a plant killer anymore. We found 5 bright and vivid plants that are easy to maintain and don’t need tons of light to thrive. Your abode will bless up in no time, transforming into a relaxing, cool, and green sanctuary.

1. Snake plant

This little gem doesn’t need a lot of water and only needs moderate to low light. I scooped a few these plants up at Sprout Home in Williamsburg.

2. ZZ plant

This is perhaps one of the best plants – ZZ plants don’t need a lot of attention (i.e. watering) and work well in dark spaces. Find a cool ZZ plant at Tend Greenpoint.

3. Ivy

By

English ivy is a great addition to your home because it only needs low light. Plus, the plant needs to dry out completely in between waterings. Pick one up at GRDN on Hoyt Street.

4. Calathea

By

Craving some color? Snag yourself some Calathea, which does well in very low light. However, this plant needs constant moisture, so be prepared to water this dude a little more frequently. Treat yourself to one or a few at Botanica Garden Center on Atlantic Avenue.

5. Lucky bamboo

By

Elevate your space with some pleasing bamboo (and hey, maybe some good luck). Keep this plant in water and change it weekly, or plant it in soil and water it evenly. Get some Lucky Bamboo at Edelweiss.
