Tech geniuses: your time has come

If you can untangle this man and tell him where all the cables go, Brooklyn can use your help. via The Guardian

So Brooklyn’s got plenty of people who can lift 50 pounds like the Red Cross requires and you can’t cook worth a damn, like Red Hook Recovers needs. But how many people know how to reroute IP addresses and other technical things that we can’t even pretend to understand? If you’re a networking specialist, electrical genius, or IT guru, you can still help. NY Tech Meetup is organizing IT-savvy volunteers to help various schools, not-for-profits, and small businesses get their information systems back up and running all over the Sandy-affected area.

They have set up two temporary headquarters at the Secret Clubhouse in Williamsburg and the Brooklyn Brainery in Carroll Gardens. They want volunteers to register online and visit one of their locations today. Even if you’re not a tech person, you can still contribute by identifying organizations that need their help. Don’t worry; we’ve already reported HuffPo, Gawker, and BuzzFeed.
