We’ve been bumming hard about this summer’s palpable dearth of free concerts, but it looks like there’ll be free music at at least one venue other than the House of Vans, and they’ll be helping a cause, too. Sixpoint Brewery has teamed up with concert listing site My Social List to present a free show series in Rockaway Beach this summer, and they’re soliciting City Harvest donations to help with Hurricane Sandy relief.
The series, appropriately titled, “Back to the Beach,” will kick off on July 4 at once Sandy-ravaged burger joint Rippers. The eatery’s back in business and better than ever; to celebrate, they’ll be hosting all three planned shows in the series. The July 4 bash, co-presented by Shorewave Records, features performances by local bands like Celestial Shore and This Library Is On Fire. The second show will be held on August 10, and features Heliotropes and Dead Stars, among others; the last and final show will close out summer on August 31, with Blackout, Hector’s Pets, Toaster and Zula among those on the setlist.
Shows will be paired with DJ sets, snacks and sunshine; plus, you should plan on bringing canned food and other non-perishable goods to donate to City Harvest. Rockaway might be back (ish) this summer, but there are still plenty of people hurting from Sandy damage eight months later.
