Holiday shopping gets sexy with the Gowanus Nite Market

Film Biz Recycling, home to the Gowanus Nite Maket

Let’s say you live in south Brooklyn, and the prospect of shipping yourself to Williamsburg, in the cold and the wind, for the Brooklyn Night Bazaar just seems so hard. Ordinarily it means you’d be SOL when it comes to enjoying shopping in a huge warehouse full of local vendors, but fortunately for you, the Gownus Nite Market has stepped in  to fill south Brooklyn’s sexy shopping void.

Beginning December 8 and then occurring on the second Saturday of every month, the Nite Market will repurpose Film Biz Recycling’s enormous warehouse full of props, to turn it into a market with local vendors, DJs, beer and food. So far, the food on hand is Boston-bred to Brooklyn-based Steve’s Ice Cream and fancy lemonade Lizzmonade (we’d suggest not combining the two, but what do we know?). There’s still time to send in a vendor application if you have an amazing product to sell and you want to join indie comic artist Mindy Indy and Design Hype, maker of these nifty (and useful) subway map cuffs.

  • Ever look at a map of Brooklyn before? Bay Ridge, Gravesend, Brighton Beach - that's south Brooklyn. Or are you only talking to non-natives who don't venture south or east of Prospect Park?

    • South Brooklyn has traditionally referred to what is now known as Cobble Hill, Gowanus, Red Hook, and Boerum Hill, named because they were south of the original city of Brooklyn. Anything north of those neighborhood is North Brooklyn. Anything south of South Brooklyn is known as "southern Brooklyn" or just by the neighborhood names.

      The more you know...

      • We're in 2013 not 1786, it's time to start calling the neighborhoods below Kensington South Brooklyn, already. Fucking transplants...
