See when Nirvana saw Rome, at Rough Trade NYC this month

Kurt Cobain was once a bored dude in Eastern Europe, just like you were!

90s nostalgia is all around us, either because the people who lived it are getting old or because it really was the best era to live ever. You decide. Either way, get out your good flannel and venture into the freeze, because we’re getting an actual interesting chunk of nostalgia starting today. From January 8 to February 2, The Room at Williamsburg’s Rough Trade NYC (64 N. 9th Street) is hosting an exhibit of pictures and artifacts from the book Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge in Europe, 1989.

From November 27 to December 4, 1989, Nirvana, Tad and Mudhoney marched their Doc Martens through Europe. At the end of their tumultuous European tour, they were accompanied and documented by Bruce Pavitt, the co-founder of Sub Pop records. Starting with their almost break-up in Rome and ending at their career changing show at the Astoria Theatre in London, the book has snapshots and artifacts of those 8 days.

Bruce Pavitt will discuss and sign copies of the book from 4pm-6pm on January 11 at Rough Trade. So pretty much, if your grunge loving soul really wants to know a first hand story of the time Kurt lost his passport on the way to London this is your chance. The exhibit itself is up for a month, so there’s no excuse to miss pictures of Nirvana exploring Rome, which I can only assume is a sight.
