Brooklyn’s a big place, but oftentimes it only gets a mild treatment. You’ll read about the same places over and over, and you won’t realize there are new ones popping up left and right. Enter Oriana Leckert, a Brooklynite with a special love of the borough (and our fantastic new events editor) who’s been celebrating off-the-beaten-path cultural hubs as they appear for the last five years. And now you can own the inside scoop in hard-copy, because Brooklyn Spaces just became a book!

This in-print guide comes flush with 50 introductions to places you’ve probably never heard of. It tells you about underground music venuestiny terrariumsindie co-working spaces, and so much more. This Saturday, Brooklyn Spaces is throwing its book launch party, and you should definitely show face if you want to call yourself a true Brooklynite.

The party itself will feature live performance by The Hungry March Band and Morgan O’Kane, as well as Batala NYC, a “50+ all-female Afro-Brazilian samba reggae percussion group.” Hey, say that three times fast! Or don’t, and just enjoy the music. There’ll also be aerialists from House of YES, food trucks, live acts galore, and photography by all the folks behind of Brooklyn Spaces. And of course, plenty copies of the book for sale.

So mark your calendar for this Saturday, 7pm at the Gowanus Ballroom (55 9th Street). Can’t make the party, but still want a copy of Brooklyn Spaces? You can pre-order the book online from Montacelli PressAmazon, and Random House, or as an e-book via Thought Catalog. And remember, there are way more than 50 things to get you outside of your comfort zone in the borough, so stay cultured with Oriana’s listings right here on Brokelyn and her events calendar, updated with dozens of cool things to do every day.
