If the Fort Greene Festival were a sandwich, it would be the most badass multi-decker sandwich in all Kings County. Hosted by Malik Yoba, Rosie Perez and Toure, the music-packed festival is going down this Saturday, June 26, from noon to 6 p.m. in Fort Greene Park. Big-name offerings include hip-hop artist extraordinaire Common; Zap Mama, everyone’s favorite poly-genre all-female group; and Caron Wheeler, two-time Grammy-winning British soul singer.
Extra savory flavor will come in the form of a $7 food tasting prepared by Fort Greene restaurants Madiba and Rice. And festival-goers can enter a raffle to win a Vespa, a $100 gift certificate from Pathmark, a spa treatment at Nu Yu Day Spa or tickets for FELA! On Broadway. A $5 donation is suggested and a portion of the festival’s proceeds will go toward the Ajile L. Turner Scholarship Fund. More info here.

Damn you, Ft. Greene. So close to Park Slope, and yet so far.
I should note for the record that the Juana Molina concert in Stuy-town yesterday was almost ruined by out of control children and unbelievably indulgent parents. Letting your children carouse IN FRONT of the performer, WHILE CARRYING BALLOONS?! Following your waddling toddlers around the front of the crowd for the duration of the performance?! Park Slope and Upper West Side parents get lots of grief, but the horrid disregard for the performer and audience by many Peter Cooper and Stuy-Town parents yesterday was truly remarkable. Awful, awful people. I pity those children.
mmm...sandwich...
