#SandyHatesArt: Buy storm-damaged Red Hook art at a benefit this Saturday

Work from Z Behl, organizer of the show

Red Hook, with its ample studio and warehouse space, is a great place to be an artist. Or was, anyway, until the East River decided that it wanted to see all the art people in Brooklyn had been talking about. And while we’re sure the river enjoyed the view, the artists of Red Hook didn’t enjoy the visit one bit, coming back to their studios to find them flooded and their art ruined. We’ve previously touched on ways for storm-battered artists to get help, and now you can help them out by heading to the Flooded Art Party, this Saturday night, in Red Hook.

If you’re the kind of person who collects art, this is a great opportunity to get your hands on something truly unique: paintings, sculptures photos and other art that had been completed but then changed by Sandy’s floodwaters. The show was put together by artist Z Behl, herself a Red Hook artist flooded by Sandy. She’s collected work from other Sandy-affected artists and will display their flood-damaged work at her studio at 133 Imlay Street. Aside from helping out the artists by buying their art, there will also be donations collected for the Red Hook Initiative, which has been an invaluable resource during the recovery.
