Rocking roulette: See bands made by random selection at the Brooklyn Rock Lottery

And of course, with Tim Harrington as host, you never know what’s gonna happen. via Facebook

So you’re so cool and plugged-in to Brooklyn’s music scene that you went to every final show at 285 Kent and Death By Audio and have even predicted the exact day that Trans-Pecos will host its last show before being turned into a Starbucks. Great. Have you heard about the supergroup made up of members of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bad Credit No Credit and the Fiery Furnaces? No? Oh right, because that band or some kind of permutation of it will only exist for one day this weekend at the Brooklyn Rock Lottery, an evening where 25 musicians will be thrown together in five bands at random and have to come up with sets for you.

The concept of the Rock Lottery is simple, although the execution sounds like a nightmare to us. 25 musicians from around Brooklyn are picked to all meet up at Baby’s All Right on Saturday morning, where they’re split up into five different bands. They then have 12 hours to put together a 3 to 5 song set that has to be performed in front of a paying audience that night (that’s you).

Why should you go, beyond the public spectacle and the fact that your $15 ticket goes to music-friendly non-profit the Harmony Program? The lineup of musicians sounds pretty great, drawing from groups like Au Revoir Simone, The Dismemberment Plan, Parquet Courts, Antony and the Johnsons and more. Plus your host is Les Savy Fav’s Tim Harrington, and we’re sure he won’t make any nervous musicians uncomfortable or anything. So go, gamble on a good time, since at the very least you can tell people you saw a band that only existed for one night.
