These lakeside bungalows near NYC are a ridiculously great bargain

This post is brought to you by Pine Lake Park.

If a summer house anywhere near NYC seems like an impossibility, you probably haven’t heard of Pine Lake Park — a unique and welcoming Westchester summer bungalow community with 60 units on 50 wooded, lakeside acres.

Easy to get to by MetroNorth to Croton-Harmon or Cortlandt station, Pine Lake Park is one of the last bargains in the Lower Hudson valley. It’s a vibrant, bucolic place, where people from diverse backgrounds play tennis, fish, hike and bike from May to October each year.

Pine Like Park is looking for a few new people to join the 85-year-old community — first as renters and then hopefully as owners of their own one- to three-bedroom unit, each with a private deck.

It’s affordable — some homes are still under 100K and offer seller (non-bank) financing. Rentals start at $2,700/month or $8,000 for the entire season (Memorial Day to early October). Guests are always welcome, and at under an hour from anywhere in the NYC area, they  come and go easily.

Pine Lake Park is not the Hamptons or the Berkshires — it’s not even the Catskills. It’s someplace wonderfully different. Owners and a few lucky renters create their own retro camp experience — visiting and reading on the beach, playing tennis on four red clay courts, joining the regularly scheduled pickup basketball game, or paddling around the lake under the watchful eye of a lifeguard.

All the units have private deck.

The social hall is the focal point for planned evening activities on weekends. This soaring, rustic space hosts prominent speakers, free professional entertainment on Saturday evenings, game nights, special events, and movies under the stars. The area also offers hiking and biking on nearby trails and easy access to Westchester’s many cultural institutions, including the arts meccas of Peekskill and Cold Spring. Or not. Your deck is serene and your hammock beckons.

Could one of these chairs be yours this summer?
