It’s never fun to see a beloved neighborhood spot close their doors, especially when it’ll probably just wind up becoming a Chipotle 2030. The best places though, face closure with a bit of gallows humor and a rocking party, like Williamsburg everything store the Mini Minimarket (218 Bedford Avenue) will be doing tonight after 14 years in business. It’s sad to see them go, but at least they’re going out with beers, margaritas and dancing. Oh, and by giving away their giant neon sign.
Yes, you read that right. As Bedford + Bowery reports, you can have their giant neon minimarket sign, which they offered up on Craigslist last week and apparently still haven’t managed to give away. We can’t say we’re shocked, considering that beyond what someone would even do with giant neon sign, there are the logistics of taking it home with you. That thing couldn’t possibly be safe on a train after all.
Still, even if you don’t go home from the party tonight with a giant sign, at least you can go home with a belly full of beers and margaritas and maybe with a person too? There will be dancing after all, and we all know what that leads to.Yes, that’s right: holding hands.
