If you’re inspired by gnocchi, pizza, and perhaps the Slow Food Movement, use your artistic skills and enter the mural competition at Williamsburg’s Fabbrica Restaurant & Bar!
The winner will be awarded a 6-month residency on the restaurant’s walls, located right at the corner of Kent Avenue. If you want your parents to to take your artistic Brooklyn life seriously, this may be the way to get some street creed (also free pasta, maybe, we hope).
The half- year residency will be sponsored by Fabbrica’s owner, Alberto Baudo, who’ll provide the resources for production and installation to allow you, an up-and-coming artist, the opportunity to showcase your work outside his restaurant. The winning artist’s piece will be digitally printed on a vinyl adhesive, spanning nine feet tall by 45 feet wide, and applied to the walls of the restaurant where it will be exhibited for six months. So it’s a big chance to make some big art.
The year-and-a-half old Italian venue’s walls are currently adorned with a mural by Brooklyn artist Olalekan Jeyifous, aka Vigilism, a nod to Williamsburg’s industrial past and the famed Centrale Montemartini museum in Rome.
“While artists have complete freedom to express their creativity, it is suggested they consider the Italian identity of the restaurant as well as its location amidst industrial Brooklyn as part of a theme,” explains Fabbrica, in case you needed any guidance.
Submissions must be made by June 15, 2014 by 11:59pm, at which point a panel of judges comprised of local gallery owners, architects, photographers and design magazine editors (as well as diners on social media) will review them and select a winner. Your potential mural should be in digital format as a high-resolution file and emailed to FabbricaArtSubmissions [AT] gmail.com.
