MTA bothers to fix gaping, stinking hole in Bergen Street mosaic

For as long as all three of the straphangers on the Bergen Street subway platform at 2:24pm today can remember, there has been a very large, often smelly hole in the mosaic at the far end of the Manhattan- and Queens-bound platform.

It has been a very eventful fall and winter season for the Bergen Street hole, which has been emitting a particularly foul smelling aroma since at least this December. Soon after, an iceberg took up residence within its girth, temporarily blocking the smell before ceding to its ephemeral existence and melting all over the platform. Recently, the MTA addressed the hole by plastering a board in front of it. Finally, it seems officials have taken to more permanent means of sealing in the abyss.

Goodbye and goodnight, Bergen Street hole, you were dank and mysterious and symbolic of the crumbling mass transit infrastructure around you.
