Lost Warhol portrait: a $1M reason to check your attic

It’s finds like these that make you want to wade through that dusty hidden crawl space in the attic (or make you wish you had one in the first place). The Associated Press reports this morning that a signed self-portrait of artist Andy Warhol will be up for auction at Sotheby’s next month after being forgotten (!) in a closet for over 40 years.  The portrait, which Sotheby’s estimates will sell for $1 million or more, was inscribed by Warhol and given to a then-teenage part-time receptionist in his factory in 1967. The very lucky recipient, Brooklyn resident Cathy Naso, briefly put the portrait on display, AP reports, but then just stuck the thing in a closet… where it stayed until this year.
