Meet some Mets at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Saturday afternoon

Show your fastball off in front of Doctor K this weekend

The Mets may have already abandoned you and your hope for a playoff berth this summer with their fifth straight losing season and the overall feeling that the earth underneath Citi Field will open up, swallowing the team whole as they fall into a bottomless, swirling abyss, but they still want to make things right. No no, not with a higher payroll or anything, don’t be silly. The team will be apologizing for committing 6 errors on Monday afternoon by hosting the Mets Jam Music Festival, at Brooklyn Bridge Park with the help of Top 40 radio mill Z100. Mets legends like Doc Gooden will be there, to hear your jokes about how they could probably make the team this year.

On Saturday, September 6, from noon to 4pm, you can dislocate your shoulder trying to impress everyone in the speed pitch, win some Mets swag or tickets and even meet some Mets legends, a couple of which actually won something here like Doc Gooden and Ed Kranepool. And even the ones who didn’t are pretty great, like fan favorites Edgardo Alfonzo and John Franco. If you prefer your Mets legends to be of the giant-headed variety, Mr. and Mrs. Met will be there for all your selfie needs. Don’t expect to get a photo with both of them at the same time though, as Mr. Met will be around from noon-2pm and Mrs. Met from 2pm-4pm. Are they on the rocks? That’d be upsetting. Also, there’ll be a musical performance by pop band Oh, Honey, who’ll try to cheer you up and distract you from the fact that summer is ending.

The event is free for all baseball and Brooklyn Bridge Park fans alike, so just show up to Pier 2 starting at noon this Saturday and get to jamming. We won’t stop you for begging the old Met greats to come out of retirement. Hey, at least Duda and deGrom have been good.
