Ladies’ night: Pine Box Rock Shop hosting ‘Vagina Monologues’ planning meeting

The Vagina Monologues are 17 years old this year, on the cusp of womanhood. And while it may have lost some of its transgressive power in a world where 2 Broke Girls is making tampon jokes on network television, it’s still necessary. The proof? We just finished an entire election cycle hinging on whether or not a woman’s womb can “shut the whole thing down” when she gets raped, and now we’ve got conservatives arguing that women are too precious for combat on the front lines. So if you think that’s as ridiculous as we do, why not head to the planning meeting for a Bushwick production of the Vagina Monologues this Saturday at Pine Box Rock Shop?

The meeting will involve taking a look through the script for this year and divvying up the parts between cast members. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be an accomplished actress to be part of it. That’s part of the beauty of giving a monologue is that you don’t have to interact with other people. If you’ve got stage fright, they can also use help with production and advertising. Hopefully it won’t involve telling people that actually, it’s alright for women to talk about their vaginas, and loudly if they want to.
