What’s that, there in the distance – could it be, dare you believe? It is, it’s real: $780/month studio units close to public transit in a Brooklyn neighborhood not too far from Manhattan and boasting the kinds of amenities that make New York seem almost humane! But wait, what’s that you say? The affordable living situation is guarded by a randomized lottery built to select only a handful of mortals for the privilege of a decently priced lease?
________
Alas, the cruel corporate seduction dance has begun again, with another affordable housing lottery – this time at Prospect Heights’ 1007 Atlantic Hill Apartments – open to application (because who needs developer’s to pay taxes when you can give them abatements and put, like, 10 people up in luxury apartments, right?!). Here are the details, don’t get too hopeful:
There are two $780/month studios, three $806/month one-bedrooms and five $973/month two-bedrooms. Single-person households with an annual income of $26,743 – $40,080 are eligible for studios, one- to two-person households with an annual income of $27,635 – $45,840 are eligible for one-bedrooms, and two-, three- and four-person households with an annual income of $33,360 – $57,240 are eligible for two-bedrooms.
Amenities are nice and within understandable means of luxury – none of those dog spas or in-unit parking spots here. There’s a roof deck, package room and, for extra cash, bike storage and storage storage.
________
The building is a short walk from holiest of trains, the Franklin Avenue Shuttle, as well as the far less holy C train.
Per usual, a portion of units will go to those with mobility, vision, or hearing disabilities, municipal employees, and area residents (in this case, those living within Brooklyn Community Board 2).
The lottery will be accepting applications through July 13 at midnight. Don’t be scammed: There’s never a broker’s fee for these lotteries and you should apply through NYC Housing Connect.
