How to help out Oklahoma City tornado survivors

via Twitter user @passantino

Another day, another horrible weather incident, this one with a Midwestern flavor. People around the country were eager to donate cash and goods after Sandy, so we should be willing to do the same after “the biggest, most destructive tornado in the history of the world.” Help is coming from traditional channels, and Occupy Sandy and local Occupy chapters in Oklahoma are also kicking back into high gear to provide assistance.

On a local level, some Occupy Sandy folks from Staten Island are getting a truck of supplies ready to drive out to Oklahoma. Any storm relief supplies are welcome, they just ask that any donated clothing is bagged and labeled properly. If you can’t get out to Staten Island, you can also donate to a WePay to help facilitate the truck rental.

Good old-fashioned M-O-N-E-Y will directly allow groups on the ground in Oklahoma to figure out what they need to help survivors, so you can donate to the following groups:

The American Red Cross: You can donate to their relief operations online, or text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10.
Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief: Money donated here will go towards things like tree removal, laundry services and meals
The Salvation Army: Not just for thrift shop duds. The group will be sending mobile kitchens out to help, and you can donate online here or text STORM to 80888
The United Way of Central Oklahoma: Donations that go directly to tornado relief efforts can be found here
Feeding America: The food bank is sending tucks of food to Oklahoma to help, they’re accepting donations here
Operation USA: The L.A.-based relief group is bringing cleaning, emergency and shelter supplies out to Oklahoma, and is accepting online donations here and text-based donations through people texting AID to 50555
