Tennis is as hot as it’s ever been, what with Serena Williams crushing Grand Slam titles and and crushing magazines and crushing Drake, so it only makes sense if you want a piece of all of it. The good news is that the U.S. Open has landed in Queens. The bad news is that it’s expensive to take in a match. The good news (see, it’s like volleying back and forth) is that you can see some of the U.S. Open for FREE, by taking in the tournament’s qualifying round this week.
The qualifying tournament for the U.S. Open is where all the hopeful players not yet in the U.S. Open compete to make it in. The matches will be going down from today through Friday at 11am at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center, which is right across the street from Citi Field. Sadly the Mets are out of town, so you can’t make it a doubleheader.
Now, because it’s the qualifying tournament, you won’t actually see Serena or Roger Federer, but you could very well be seeing the next Serena or Federer, and you won’t even have to pay for it. Beyond a subway ride we mean, and taking the train to the game almost pays for itself, if you consider the economic value of having some time to read.
