Get a Hip-Hop 101 lesson from some BK originators tomorrow at the Brooklyn Historical Society

Let Black Moon take you to school tomorrow night

Where Brooklyn at, where Brooklyn at? If you’ve got a single hip bone in your body, you’ll be at the Brooklyn Historical Society on tomorrow, November 21, at 7pm for Hip-Hop 101: Told It First Hand to kickoff the Bodega Education Initiative Series. The series will feature discussions with artists, writers, and others involved in the creation of Brooklyn hip-hop.

This Thursday night is also the twentieth anniversary of Black Moon’s album Enta da Stage, so fittingly, two members of the group, Franklin Avenue’s Buckshot Shorty and Bushwick’s Evil D, are set to be the  inaugural guests.  Known for their hit single, “Who Got Da Props,” Buckshot and Evil D will sit with Wes Jackson, the founder and executive director of the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival and President of Brooklyn Bodega to talk about the art of rhyme, the Boot Camp Clik, redefining hip-hop culture, putting Brooklyn back on the map for hip-hop, and paving the way for the late Notorious B.I.G..

You can get tickets here. The event is free to all BHS members and $10 for non-members, but your ticket also comes with a complimentary beer, which is more than you got that time you embarrassed yourself in that cipher.
