Delivery people, dishwashers, nail technicans, construction workers, bussers, deli employees are part of your neighborhood infrastructure. They also work long, tireless hours with only one day a week off. Perhaps that one day off is Sunday – a day of rest.
En el Séptimo Día, a fiction feature film directed by Jim McKay, follows undocumented workers in Sunset Park over the course of one week. José is a bicycle delivery worker with a lot of on his mind and in his life: his pregnant wife is still in Mexico, he works six days a week at a restaurant, lives with nine other people in Sunset Park, and his passion (and escape) resides in soccer. The protagonist’s point of conflict is when José has to face a dilemma: work more for a chance at getting via paperwork or finding solace and integrity in his soccer championship. Plus, the movie was filmed in Sunset Park, Gowanus, and Park Slope.
