Discovery of the day: free golf lessons for kids

Dying over here! So we read in today’s Post that legal scalpers are charging $850 for tee times at the Bethpage Black golf course—host to this week’s U.S. Open—and we got to wondering whether there weren’t cheaper courses in Brooklyn. There are, of course… but Tiger doesn’t really play at them, they’re still kind of expensive, and who are we to say if they’re any good, and plus we found something even more exciting to tell you about: free summer golf lessons for kids at a beautiful new Brooklyn course!

They’re at the brand spanking new, $8 million CityParks Foundation Junior Golf Center, a kids’ only 6-hole golf course in Dyker Beach where they offer free, twice-a-week golf lessons for kids ages 7 to 17. The July lessons are full already, but applications for August (season runs August 3 to 30) go up on June 22—that’s Monday!—at www.cityparksfoundation.org.

That’s up to eight free golf lessons, from peewee level to advanced, for bupkis! Sorry for all the exclamation points! But we can totally see the new morning routine: drop the kids off, go for that power walk along the bay. We are so there.

Through the CityParks Foundation, you can also sign up for all kinds of free tennis, track-and-field and golf lessons at other parks near you. Check the web site for registration info.
