Hey filmmakers: Nitehawk wants your shorts for their festival

Everyone’s favorite high-end eat-in Williamsburg movie theater, Nitehawk Cinema, is gearing up for the 5th edition of its Nitehawk Shorts Festival, and they need your shorts. The festival is open to submissions for all filmmakers, big and small, from far and wide, in all genres. In addition to the opportunity to have your work accepted to a festival, shorts shown at the festival will have the chance to win awards ranging from post-production coloring services to equipment donation.

The eligibility rules are not strict: the short must be short (under 20 minutes), non-English films must have English subtitles, you have to have made it between 2015 and 2017 and you have to comply with the “Rules and Regulations”. That’s it.

The festival, which has been held since 2013, emphasizes a wide diversity of skill levels. This isn’t Hollywood, this is Williamsburg, and Nitehawk is considering the work of emerging film school students just as much as the work of Academy Award nominees. Inclusivity and starting a dialogue is the main criteria for work, so if you can get people talkin’ bout your shorts that’ll do you more good than inflating your resume.

Music videos are also accepted.

There is a submission fee of $30 (it was $20 if you submitted by the early bird deadline) for submissions made between now and June 25. If you’re late and submit between June 25 and June 30, that submission fee jumps to $50. You’ll know if your short is in or nah by August 28, and the event itself is November 7 – 12.
