Bitching about the MTA, like being miserable and treating other people like dirt, is every New Yorker’s God-given right. That being said, it’s not like we don’t know that it’s a very difficult thing to do, to run a gigantic subway system, and that’s even before you get a garbage human mayor more interested in raiding transit budgets than supporting them. Even the simple act of making the trains run and connect smoothly is hard, as the addictive and frustrating browser game Mini Metro will show you.
The game is deceptively simple. Just connect the lines to each other to provide the quickest possible rides for the people represented by shapes. Get the circles to the circles and the triangles to the triangles, without causing massive station overcrowding. Except oh wait, you don’t have unlimited tunnels. And oh wait, you’ve only got so many lines to work with. Play it once (you won’t be able to stop at one time though) and you’ll maybe have a little sympathy for the people trying to plan the subway. At least until the next major service disruption that makes you reach for some serious Old World swear words.

When I was a kid, you just took a couple of Lionel locomotives, dipped a couple of plastic soldiers in lighter fluid, set them on fire, put them on the trains and crashed them head on. A lot simpler.
