Shira Heads to Rockwood on 3/23; Let’s Dive In!
March 23 @ 10:00 pm - 11:30 pm$15
Shira is a New York based artist that shows no sign of slowing down. With a string of epic songs she has revealed the past few months, not only is she on tour but she’s also made a stop at SxSW. Her heaven sent vocals and intricate playing see the singer-songwriter playing Rockwood Music Hall on 3/23. We had the honor of catching up with the musical goddess right before she embarked on tour.
With an upcoming show at Rockwood, is this your first time playing the acclaimed venue? If so, what are you looking forward to the most?
Rockwood is actually home-base for me. I’ve been living in NYC for a while and Rockwood is my favorite spot to play in town.
This show is going our last one after a 13 city tour (!) starting in SXSW in Austin, TX ! Is a perfect way to finish the tour!
What is the premise for the night? Any surprises?
This show is the only one on the tour where we have a special guest- my musical partner and former guitarist and music director of the band Blondie, Paul Carbonara. Google him. You won’t regret it.
Can we expect any new songs at the show?
Most definitely! Paul, the band and I just recorded a new album at The Diamond Mine in Queens where Lady Gaga recorded her last album. We plan to play quite a few new songs off this new album.
What are you looking forward to the most for the evening?
Bringing love, music stories for the road to my hometown crowd. I’m sure we’ll have lots of crazy ones…
How do you take the songs from the studio and craft them onto the stage? Is there any special process, or is it straightforward?
This is a solo tour and I’ve only recorded with a full band. My main instrument is the ukulele (I’m a proud Kala artist!) so I adapt the arrangements to make it work on the uke. The truth is as long as the songs are good and I’m serving the message of the song many arrangements could work. This solo uke/guitar tour makes it extra especial and super intimate.
When on stage, what do you love the most about performing?
Connecting with the audience. Inviting them to free their voices and bodies and sing and dance with me.
Do you have any pre-show rituals you’d like to share? What is the typical show-day for you?
Sleep! its the most important thing… A good night’s sleep before a show. and also you’ll never find me without a handful of Ricolas in my bag.
Can we expect more East Coast dates later this year? New York loves you!
And I love New York! Well in this March tour we’re hitting- San Antonio, Austin, Denton (TX), Clarksville (TN), Nashville, Decatur (GA), Charleston (SC), Wilmington (NC), Chapel Hill (NC), Washington DC, Philly and finishing in NY so definitely some East coast in there, but we hope to have more this year! stay tuned at- www.shiraofficial.com
