Nate Fridson and Shalewa Sharpe Do Thirty-Minute Sets
Nov 20, 2016 @ 9:00 pm - 10:30 pm$5
One night only! Two of New York’s finest comics – Shalewa Sharpe and Nate Fridson – do thirty minutes of material – in a row, back to back! What a treat! Who are these comics, you ask? Why, read below!
Detroit born and Brooklyn based comedian Nate Fridson has been called, “Smart and original,” by audiences and, “Not awful,” by at least one ex-girlfriend. Nate draws from his own life experiences, and then exaggerates them to comedic effect to write his jokes. Except when he doesn’t, and he just tells the stories verbatim. But that’s rare. His act has been described as edgy yet clean, and also observational. Confused? You should see it and decide for yourself. Nate performs all over the country and has appeared at comedy festivals such as The Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Limestone Comedy Festival, the Brooklyn Comedy Festival, and the New York Comedy Festival. Nate released his debut album on A Special Thing Records, “Best Guy So Far,” to rave reviews. In New York City, Nate is the host of the monthly showcase of dark material known as, “Dark Spots,” and he can also be seen hosting, “Comedy at Beauty Bar,” Sunday nights at Beauty Bar in Manhattan.
Shalewa Sharpe tells jokes. She developed her sly yet goofy style in Atlanta, where she was raised. She has worked with some fantastic comedians, like Kyle Kinane and Jackie Kashian. Currently in Brooklyn, New York, she has joked on extremely popular live shows (Night Train with Wyatt Cenac, Comedy Night at The Knitting Factory) and at festivals (Brooklyn Comedy Festival, Atlanta’s Red Clay Comedy Festival). She co-produces and hosts “Thug Passion Presents,” a lively table read and celebration of classic black movies. She recently released her debut album, “Stay Eating Cookies,” on Rotknee Presents Records to much fanfare and rave reviews.
