Stephanie Costello Announces “Masterpieces” FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AT Willoughby Neighborhood Senior Center ON June 19th, 11am
Event Presented as Part of SU-CASA 2019
On June 19th, from 11am to 1pm, SU-CASA Artist-in-Residence Stephanie Costello will present “Masterpieces”, an Exhibition at 11am at Willoughby Neighborhood Senior Center.
This spring, seniors at the Willoughby Neighborhood Senior Center used the work of famous artists as inspiration for learning how to paint their own works of art. Using the artwork of Romare Bearden, Van Gogh, , Mickalene Thomas, the women of Gee’s Bend, Andy Warhol, and others, seniors explored how to take what they loved about these works of art, and make them their own. This dedicated group of artists created paintings they are excited to share with the community. We hope you will join us!
SU-CASA is a community arts engagement program that places artists and arts organizations in residence at senior centers across Brooklyn. Selected artists will engage participating seniors in an art project or series of cultural programs over the course of the residency. Each residency will also include a public program component – exhibits, readings, performances, open houses or other cultural interactions open to the surrounding community. This initiative seeks to connect artists with seniors in senior centers to positively impact the well-being of older adults through direct engagement in arts-based activities.
SU-CASA is a collaboration among the New York City Council, the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA), the Department for the Aging (DFTA) and Brooklyn Arts Council. The program is funded in FY19 by New York City Council and we would like to thank Councilmember Laurie Cumbo for her support. Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) is proud to administer this program on behalf of the borough of Brooklyn.
