MAKBET: Celebrating the Twentieth Anniversary of Dzieci Theatre
Shakespeare’s ageless tale of greed, omens, and foul deeds, comes alive through the unflinching performance of a handful of actors who take turns spontaneously trading off parts at the drop of a hat (literally!)
You have not seen anything like Makbet. A riotous clan from ‘The Old Country’ greets you with libations and divinations then takes you into the ‘box’ where they embark on this wildly ritualistic take on Macbeth; an immersion beneath the skin of Shakespeare, and an experience, which audiences have said is:
“Remarkable!” “Exhilarating!” “Spellbinding!” “Fearless!” “Absolutely liberating!”
With haunting folksongs from Eastern Europe and a mere handful of props, Dzieci explores (and explodes!) the very nature of theatre and storytelling.
Join us at Sure We Can, the remarkable community center in Bushwick, which nobly promotes a sustainable urban culture while facilitating a circular economy. Sure We Can has hosted this spirited troupe for four seasons and now they’ll be housing them in a shipping container for five weeks!
Sure We Can – 219 Mckibben Street, Bushwick, Brooklyn 11206
You haven’t seen Macbeth until you’ve seen it presented by the Dzieci Theatre.
An eye-popping-ear-poking confirmation that Shakespeare once again
constructed something not easily degraded.
You’re not likely to see anything resembling Makbet ever again.”

“Intimate and powerful… The actors’ trust in one another is palpable… Dzieci’s staging of Shakespeare’s play is a truly unique and rewarding venture. Catch it while you can!”

“A one of a kind immersive show. The beauty of Dzieci’s production is that, seemingly without trying, it can satisfy the tastes of very diverse audiences. A Shakespeare scholar, glamorous partygoer, adventure seeker, spiritual person and theater enthusiast or not, all kinds of folk will find something precious in this experience. Makbet is not to be missed!”
