Live Composition Festival 2019
May 29 @ 7:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 7:00pm, repeating until May 30, 2019
A Two-Day Celebration of Live Composed Music and Theater
Brooklyn, NY May 29th & 30th, 2019 starting at 7pm.
Experimental art enthusiasts rejoice! The Live Composition Festival returns featuring WALTER THOMPSON ORCHESTRA (led by Walter Thompson), STRIKE ANYWHERE PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE (helmed by Leese Walker), and LETTER OF MARQUE THEATER CO (with Nolan Kennedy). This year also features other acts like percussionist-composer BILLY MARTIN (of jazz-funk trio, MEDESKI MARTIN & WOOD) and the riveting live rhythms of HUMAN TIME MACHINE.
Each group will compose never-to-be-recreated pieces in real-time that, according to Kennedy, can be “madness descending into beauty and emerging into theme.” All three inter-disciplinary groups are comprised of professional actors, musicians, dancers, and other performative arts.
The festival, in its 6th year, attracts experimental music, theater, and dance enthusiasts, as well as a swath of young urban adventurers seeking Brooklyn’s neatest offerings. Quips Walker, “this Festival is on the front lines of the underground art scene, don’t miss it!” Live projections by JONATHAN CHECLER (Festival Jazz N’ Ambleny, Madison Square Garden Theater). Live painting by cartoonist/illustrator SAM FERRI (MAD Magazine, New York Observer). Sponsored by Alewife Brewing Company.
LETTER OF MARQUE THEATER CO is a non-profit, multi-disciplinary crew of actors, musicians, writers and directors that functions as a performance ensemble to produce new, original and re-imagined theater, classes, and events.
Founded in 1997, STRIKE ANYWHERE PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE is a permanent collective of jazz musicians, modern dancers, and actors. Performers collaborate through an ensemble-based process to create politically-charged, original works.
WALTER THOMPSON has achieved international recognition as a composer and for the creation of Soundpainting, the universal multidisciplinary live composing sign language. Thompson has composed Soundpaintings with contemporary orchestras, dance companies, theatre ensembles and multidisciplinary groups in United States, Europe and South America.
