“…bridging cultures while creating a fun atmosphere within improvisation. Amazing…”
Guided by a strong belief in life’s natural flow, Brown Rice Family gives listeners a distinctively organic world roots music experience, encompassing reggae, hiphop, afro beat, jazz, rock, Brazilian, Latin, and funk music. Comprised of eight members hailing from Japan, Jamaica, Haiti, Nigeria, South Africa, and the US, the members’ diverse national backgrounds set the stage for a musical journey that straddles ancient and contemporary global sounds.
Jaimie Walker has lived & worked in DUMBO for 15 years. She graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Communications Design. Walker is obsessed with people: their behavior, their faces and gestures, the way they eat and talk, the places they’re from, their addictions, the opinions they express. For her work, she records data, collects information, and gathers evidence from the streets. Over time–sometimes months, sometimes years–she layers her own and found graphic design, photography, political statements, typography and the occasional man made object time has had the opportunity to alter, creating in visual energy the stories of individual faces, people, paths and relationships.
The Space Station, by This Friday or Next Friday, premieres at this year’s Live at the Archway. Tfnf is likely the tiniest, most inconsequential art gallery in DUMBO, Brooklyn, probably in NYC, and maybe on the face of the earth. It was founded by Nathan Sinai Rayman, and he runs it with Zach Seeger, his Director of Programs.
Live at the Archway is a dynamic event series, with musical performances + interactive live art experiences + beer & wine for a landlocked Lighthouse in the magical, only-in-DUMBO setting of the Manhattan Bridge Archway. Events take place Thursday evenings from June through September. All ages. Always rain or shine. Free. It is curated and presented by the DUMBO Improvement District & The Lighthouse.
