Foster Care Film project and City Living NY present “Family Rewritten”

Dec 3, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

This December, idesygn and City Living NY will present a preview screening of “Family Rewritten,” the newest short film associated with the Foster Care Film and Community Engagement Project (FCFCEP). A moderated discussion panel about the foster care experience will follow the screening.

The event is from 5 – 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at Halyards in Brooklyn, an independent bar and screening room (406 3rd Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11215).

A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will benefit City Living, NY, a Brooklyn-based non-profit organization that supports youth who are aging out of foster care. City Living NY programs include providing household goods for apartments, mentorships, and referrals to counseling, education and job training programs. During the event, City Living NY will have an Amazon Wish List set up, providing attendees the opportunity to purchase and donate items from the list for foster youth. Learn more about City Living NY at www.citylivingny.org.

FCFCEP provides an opportunity for foster youth to be heard through storytelling, writing and art, and connects youth to those who have an opportunity to make a difference within the system. The project has released two other award-winning documentary shorts — “My Identity” and “Feeling Wanted,” in addition to a series of “Snapshots” video clips and an educator’s toolkit.

Panelists for the Dec. 3 preview screening of “Family Rewritten” will include Anthony Turner, former foster youth and youth advocate; Liz Northcutt of City Living NY and Virginia Vitzhum of Represent Magazine.

This event is sponsored in part by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC).
